Greg is a native and lifelong resident of Rochester, NY, a graduate of McQuaid and the University of Rochester with a BA degree in Psychology. He now lives in Irondequoit. He is a connector, coach, consultant, collaborator, communicator and life-long entrepreneur.
He began his career in teaching while still in high school working in a summer school program at McQuaid Jesuit High School for underachieving urban junior high youth. During college he taught private driving lessons on weekends, evenings and throughout the summer. Upon graduation he was a junior high school Math and English teacher at Holy Trinity school in Webster.
Greg transitioned into Information Technology from teaching with the assistance of a former student's parent who offered him a job at the County of Monroe in the Data Processing Department where he first did shift work in the computer room, later to become a programmer/analyst.
After a few short years as a civil servant he joined the growing ranks of computer consultants in the 80's working primarily on the Xerox account as a contract programmer/analyst. At this time Greg discovered his interest in professional networking tuning into who was connected to whom and how. Soon he became a part of the management team of Professional Support, Inc.,a regional IT staffing firm where he performed as a recruiter, account manager and sales manager. Greg has over 20 years experience as a headhunter in the staffing industry helping managers and professionals connect on opportunities that are beneficial to the employer and professional. He has worked in the trenches of the hiring process interfacing primarily with hiring managers and professionals. He understands first hand what makes candidates attractive to employers, how to interview effectively, negotiate an offer and follow-up effectively. The do's and don't's of getting hired are areas of expertise for him.
Networking and connecting others are second nature to him. His expertise in connecting others and LinkedIn have earned him the name Sir LinkedAlot. Greg is the Founder of The August Group, a local professional networking community service program for professionals in career transition in 2002. He built the programs, services, its organizational structure and developed its brand with the support of many volunteers through 2005 when the organization transitioned to its current leadership team. He has been a LinkedIn member since March of 2004 building a network primarily of people he has met. His network reaches over 10 million professoinals. Greg has been teaching LinkedIn to job seekers. professionals and business since 2007. He began speaking nationally in 2010 when he presented on LinkedIn at the Career Management Association's Annual Conference in New Orleans.
Greg is service- oriented and community-minded. He is the Founder of The August Group, a Rochester-based professional networking organization started in 2002 known for its work assisting professionals in transition.
