LinkedIn Tips - Processing Recommendations

Why offer recommendations?

They are an excellent means of enhancing a relationship.  Offer them when earned.  Don't write them when they are personal in nature.  Keep the references to professional expertise where expectations are exceeded.

Asking for recommendations

You can only ask a recommendation of another LinkedIn member who you connected to.  The recommendation must be written in context of employment or education.  When you receive a recommendation you can ask that the author make changes if it is inaccurate or requires spelling or grammar corrections.  You manage the recommendations that are offered.  You can post those you value as a part of your profile.

Trading Recommendations

LinkedIn strongly recommends that you offer a recommendation for anyone who has written one for you.  This is contrived and not advisable, but when worthy is certainly reasonable and wise.
